SACRED SUMMITS: Few years ago Lou and I , standing on the edge of Tumbaco (Ecuador) watching Tungurahua
volcanoe erupting decided that our next project would be to scale all the sacred summits around the world, combining several
peaks in each region. This summer 2007 marks the beginning of our journey starting in Istanbul we climbed Mont Ararat, then
Mont Olympus in Greece and Mont Sinai in Egypt.

Mont Ararat, 16,946 ft. Located in Eastern
Turkey not far from Russia. 10 miles west of
Iran and 20 miles south of Armenia.
From Istanbul a short flight to van and a 3
hours drive brings us at the base of the
mountain in the town of Dogubeyazit.
From there we climbed the peak using two high
altitude camps and 8 days.
After our successfulll ascent of Mt Ararat we
spend few days in Dogubeyazit visiting the country
we visited the famous resting place of Noah's Ark.

From Litochoro and Prionia we walked to the
beautiful hut of spilios Agapitos for the night and
climb early the next day to the summit. without
being too technical the final approach required
some short roping on delicat, expose ground.
After another success we continue toward Athen
driving via Delphi and enjoying this amazing
country
And on we went ! Another flight we landed in Cairo and transfer to Sharm El Sheik not far from Mont sinai. after a
day rest we drove in the middle of the night to reach Santa katharina monastery from were we hiked to the summit.
arriving in the early morning , we then enjoy this special time of sunrise.
