                    INTRODUCTORY MOUNTAINEERING COURSE
                             FOR BEGINNER AND INTERMEDIATE

















Course Overview
This course is designed for the beginner or intermediate climber wishing to develop strong fundamental skills in
all aspects of snow and ice climbing, rock climbing, glacier travel  and general mountaineering. This course can
serves as a platform for more technical climbs.

This course take place in the Val D’Annivier, Switzerland at the Moiry hut. A perfect location for such course.
Easy access and plenty of options, a beautiful glacier few minutes away from the hut, rock climbing all around
the hut and many peaks to apply all the techniques learn.

Course Objectives
Increasing technical knowledge/skills in all aspects of snow, ice, rock and alpine climbing including:

Glacier travel, Crevasse rescue, Cramponing, Self arrest
Ice climbing, anchors,  Piolets tractions.
Rope, knots, rock gear/belay techniques, Rappelling, Safe climbing, rescue techniques

Developing educated, self-reliant climbers with the ability to evaluate the conditions and make decisions,  
including:
Route finding,  navigation, Weather, Glacier conditions
Gear evaluations
Hazards evaluation, risk management, Critical decision-making





Physical Conditioning
In the best interest of personal safety, success and team compatibility. Adequate training and excellent physical
condition is required. We will not carry any heavy pack as the team is base out of a hut that provide dinner,
breakfast and Lodging.



ITINERARY:

Day 1: Sunday, noon  Meeting in Sierre train station (very accessible from Geneva, Zurich in the Rhone valley).
Review gear , conditions, plan of the week, transfer to Grimentz for the night, hotel.

Day 2: Transfer to" Barrage de Moiry" and walk to the Moiry hut ( 2 hours), afternoon spend learning knots, rope
management, belay techniques. Evening Lecture about glaciers

Day 3: Ice climbing, glacier travel, rescue. From the hut a short walk down the moraine bring the team on top of
a magnificent glacier with great options for instruction from: Glacier travel, piolet traction, cramponning
techniques, rescue system.  Evening lecture risk management.


Day 4: Rock climbing.: a few feet from the hut  start working on movement skills,  then continue up as you
practice, belaying, placing protections, to a beautiful summit. Descent include route finding, risk management.
Evening lecture: Planning, navigation.


Day 5:  First summit, apply techniques learn, plus short roping.
Evening lecture: Decision making

Day 6: Second summit: Application of all the techniques. Return to hut and pack.
walk down to the valley, end of course.(late afternoon)
