An excellent introduction to high altitude mountaineering on Ecuador's finest peaks. This expedition will develop
the mountaineering skills vital for any successful ascent: glacier travel, high altitude physiology and snow
climbing.
Take the opportunity to explore Ecuador’s unparalleled natural beauty with thrilling adventure.
Otavalo market, the Galapagos islands, the rain forest, the high Andean plateau.
In 1880 when Edward Whimper came to climb, Chimborazo was considered the highest mountain in the world. If you
measure it from the center of the earth it is the highest mountain still. With eight mountains above 5,000 meters, Ecuador
offers a perfect training ground for high altitude climbing without embarking on a full expedition. Similar to the Alps, this
region of the Andes offer an ease of access to a number of high peaks. Quito with it's International airport and Ecuador's
people who are known for their warm hospitality, facilitate the organization of these adventures.
Our expedition include an acclimatization period, climbing El Corazon, Iliniza before embarking on Cotopaxi,
Chimborazo, Cayambe or Antizana.
Good acclimatization is the key to a successful climb at high altitude. During this tour the team spent several days visiting
Quito and the surronding at 9,000ft before going up into the mountains. We set our camp at the Cuello de Luna climbed
Iliniza Norte and El corazon, allowing each member to adjust and deal with the altitude.
THIRD PEAK, Cotopaxi 5897m. / 19,347ft.
For the bigger peak an early start was required. Up at 11:30 PM, on the trail at 12:30 am, we slowly but steadily moved
up the mountain, the temperature was cold -20 degrees Celsius, the snow was excellent and the crampons bite in well. By
the time the sun rise the view of Antizana gives us a renewed energy.
FOURTH PEAK; CHIMBORAZO 6,310M. 20,703 FT.
A beautiful night. We left the hut at midnight, reaching the summit just in time for the sunrise.
