Ski touring in Chile, September 2010
Description:
Enjoy ski touring in one of the most exciting environments in South America, Chile. Skiing a variety of areas ranging from the
Aconcagua Valley to the doorsteps of Chilean Patagonia. The program includes ski touring on the region's most spectacular
volcanoes, such as the Nevado Lonquimay (2,890m), Llaima (2,125m), Villarrica (2,830m) and Mocho.
Itinerary:
Day… : Travel time
Day 1: Santiago airport pick up, transfer to hotel in Santiago.
Day 2: Transfer to Valle Las Trancas in Termas de Chillan, 6 - 8 hours drive total. Hotel PIRIGALLO – Termas de Chillan. ( buses)
Day 3: Ski Tour, Volcan Chillan 3,157m. We use Termas de Chillan Ski Lift, 1,600m and reach the ski area high point 2,400mt. We
will use this day to get ready for ski touring. While climbing the peak we will review techniques, make the final adjustment.
Day 4: Ski Touring to Nevado Chillan 3,212m. Hotel PIRIGALLO
We will use Termas de Chillan Ski Lift, 1,600m and reach the ski area high point 2,400mt. From here we start our ski tour towards the
Nevados de Chillan. A beautiful glaciated peak culminating at 3,212 meters. A fantastic await you before returning to your hotel and
soak in the pool.
Day 5: transfer to Manzanar Termas. Leaving in the morning from hotel Pirigallo we will transfer to Manzanar via Chillan, Victoria ( 6 –
7 hours)
Relax in the hotspring at the Manzanar resort.
Day 6: Lonquimay 2,746m. from the hotel a 25 km drive will bring us to the base of this beautiful volcanoe. We will ride the chairlift
and hike this beautiful mountain, offering an amazing ski descent.
Day 7: Tolhuaca 2, 761m. From the hotel Manzanar we will drive up the road to the base of this beautiful volcanoe. Great ascent
and of course amazing ski descent.
Day 8: Early transfer to Huilo Huilo area to ski tour the Choshuenco Mocho volcano! Here we stay at the beautiful BAOBAB Hotel.
Day 9: Ascent of volcanoe Mocho. An early start to the base of the volcanoe. A short ride with the snow cat will bring us to the base of
the glacier. We will then ski up to the rim of the crater before enjoying another amazing ski descent. Night at the hotel Baobab.
Day 10: Villarrica volcano ski tour : we drive to Volcan Villlarica National Park where there is a glacier in the other side of this
volcano. We start around midday a 5 hours ski tour program. We stay in Pucon at Hotel MALALHUE and dinner in town.
Day 11: From Pucon , we will drive to the base of Llama volcanoe, for our last peak we will go for a long day of skiing before
returning to Temuco. Hotel night near the airport
Day 12: Transfer to Temuco airport for domestic flight: in the morning 09.25 am arriving Stgo 11.35 connect international flights
Difficulty:
This tour is open to intermediate to advance skiers. There is no major difficulty.
If you are a good skier , with good fitness and wish to experience ski touring for the first time this is a great tour.

binding and Garmont ski boots
